What is Biofeedback?

The word Biofeedback means "feedback from the body." Biofeedback provides a window to see how our bodies respond to stress or danger. This type of feedback from our body is usually ignored unless it becomes quite intense like a panic attack or a painful headache. Biofeedback training can help us learn to respond to the body's stress signals before they become too intense and to take action to relieve stress throughout the day before it impacts our ability to complete our tasks or handle our emotions.

Biofeedback Training can:

  • Increase internal awareness of stress and tension in the body and mind
  • Teach us to calm down quickly and easily
  • Improve mental clarity, concentration, and memory for peak performance
  • Develop the ability to release tension and stress

In Stress Management and Biofeedback Services we use instruments and programs that measure stress and tension in the body. Sensors measure indicators of stress like heart rate, heart rhythms, sweat gland activity, hand temperature, and muscle tension and display them live on a computer screen, showing how tense or relaxed we are. Live biofeedback is not only helpful in gaining awareness of how stress affects our bodies and minds but helps us bring our stress response under greater conscious control. With time and practice we can gain effective stress management skills.
