BYU's CAPS Receives Excellence in Group Practice Award

BYU's CAPS was given an award for their outstanding work in the specialty of group therapy from the American Psychological Association's Division 49. The Excellence in Group Practice Award is given to recognize "outstanding contributions to the practice of group psychotherapy and/or other applied group interventions. This award honors any individual, agency or organization that provides exemplary group services to the community."

When presenting the award, the division made the following statement: "Since 1999, BYU’s Counseling Psychology department, Clinical Psychology department, and Counseling and Psychological Services have worked together to combine clinical research and practice in group psychotherapy. CAPS has regularly held between twenty and thirty groups of various types every fall and winter semester, while engaging in supervision and training of doctoral level interns and students, and engaging in a very productive program of group research under the combined efforts of Robert Gleave, PhD, ABPP, CGP, FAGPA, Gary Burlingame, PhD, CGP, FAGPA, Mark Beecher, PhD, CGP, and many others who have been a part of the CGRP team. Combined together, BYU’s group program is an example of what psychology strives to do.​"
